Last updated: 6 September 2026. This notice explains what MarkLess processes, why it is used, and the controls available to teachers.
1. What MarkLess collects
MarkLess may process teacher account details, class names, student names or IDs, assignment prompts, typed or uploaded student writing, grading results, feedback, usage records, and source images or documents uploaded for grading.
2. Why we process this information
We use the information to provide grading and feedback features, maintain class and student history, operate accounts and subscriptions, send service emails, protect the service, troubleshoot problems, and improve MarkLess.
3. Student data and teacher responsibility
MarkLess is designed for teachers. Teachers and schools are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate authority to upload student work. Where possible, use student IDs or pseudonyms instead of unnecessary identifying information.
4. AI-assisted processing
Student writing may be sent to configured AI services so MarkLess can transcribe handwriting, analyze writing and generate draft grading feedback. Teachers remain responsible for reviewing AI-generated results before using them for assessment.
5. Service providers
MarkLess uses third-party infrastructure for functions such as application hosting, databases, private object storage, AI processing, transactional email and payment processing. These providers receive only the information needed to perform their service.
6. Payments
Payment details are handled by the configured payment provider. MarkLess does not need to store card numbers, CVVs, online-banking passwords or PayPal passwords. MarkLess may retain subscription identifiers and status needed to manage plan access.
7. Data retention and deletion
Teachers can delete individual source photos where supported, clear student homework history, delete students, and delete their MarkLess account subject to any active paid subscription requirements. Source-image retention options may also be available in Account settings.
8. Security
MarkLess uses account separation, HTTPS, server-side secret storage and private object storage in deployed environments. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so users should avoid uploading unnecessary sensitive information.
9. International processing
Service providers may process information in countries different from the teacher or student. Schools and teachers should review any local requirements that apply to student information before wider institutional use.
10. Changes to this notice
We may update this Privacy Policy as MarkLess changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
